FC Halifax Town forward Liam McAlinden scored a brace as The Shaymen beat Solihull Moors 2-1 on Saturday. Shaymen TV caught up with McAlinden after the game, he began with telling us his thoughts on the win.

“A really positive performance again. First half we were strong and in the second half we had to dig in, with them scoring and getting back in the game and it turned into a tough game. We knew what they were going to be about, and we are delighted with how we dug in. We probably could have got one or two more on the break as well.”

The striker went onto say how the spirit of the team was a factor in the win.

“I’ve only being here a month now, but I’ve settled in really fast and we’ve got a great bunch of lads here. We’re really digging in for each other and we are gaining results, hopefully if it continues, we’re not going to get ahead of ourselves. Every game we have is going to be tough, but the group that we’ve got are positive and hoping to push forward.”

The Moors started out at The Shay playing a back three with wing backs, could possibly be being negative before they started to throw caution to the wind.

“It didn’t surprise us, we knew that they were going to play 3-5-2 and they’re always direct into their big man upfront he’s always a threat, so it was something we worked on and something that we envisioned was going to happen and we did really well.”

McAlinden has now got five for the season so far, putting him top of Towns scoring charts and second in the league. He spoke about how much he is enjoying playing with Tobi Sho-Silva.

“You know what you are going to get with Tobi, he’s big, he’s strong, he puts himself about a bi. All I’ve got to do is tr and read where his flick-on’s and bring downs are going to be. It’s being great, I’m really enjoying it so long may it continue.”

After a fantastic opening month for The Shaymen and McAlinden, both him and the team are looking forward for the next fixture against Chesterfield on Tuesday.

“We are enjoying every game that comes at the minute and we’re getting positive results. When you are winning you want to play every day if you could. We are really positive about going into the game on Tuesday and hopefully we can have everyone fit and go in looking for three points.”
