A fine 2nd half comeback sees FC Halifax Town take the 3 points after an entertaining 2 v 1 victory over Barrow FC at the Progression Solicitors Stadium.  In a game of 2 half’s Town were off the pace in the first period but they more than made up for that in the 2nd period as they took the game to the home side, scored twice and ultimately won the game.

In a disappointing first half at the Progression Solicitors Stadium Town found themselves a goal being in the opening minute for the 2nd away fixture in a row.  A long Crossfield ball from Brad Barry found Lewis Hardcastle on the left side who ran with the back ball across the pitch and found Dior Angus on the right and was then on hand to receive the return pass and hit a 20-yard curing shot over Sam Johnson.

Town tried to respond but found Barrow’s deep lying midfield difficult to break down.  Too often the final ball went astray, and it was the hosts who carried more threat going forward with John Rooney, Brother of England legend Wayne, dictating play with a series of long cross field passes that gave Barrow crossing opportunities in dangerous positions.

A couple of Jamie Allen runs on the right produced corners which were defended with ease.  Jerome Binnom-Williams surged forward but was denied a shooting opportunity as The Shaymen failed to trouble Joel Dixon in the Barrow goal.  Sam Johnson had to be alert at his near post to clear from a Rooney corner and cleared an Angus cross low to his right. Former FC Halifax Town loanee Scott Quigley turned well and headed for goal but his shot was blocked by Skipper Matty Brown before the final chance of the half fell to Olly Dyson who latched onto a long Sam Hird clearance but shot over from 20 yards.

Pete Wild made a change at half time with Jeff King replacing his namesake Cameron and the change worked to great effect with Liam McAlinden taking up a more central position and he terrorised the Barrow defence in the 2nd period.  Within 5 minutes Town were level when the hard-working Toby Sho-Silva had a shot blocked but Liam Nolan was on hand to coolly notch his first goal for the Club from 6 yards out. McAlinden shot wide as the pressure grew but Barrow always carried a threat on the break with Rooney again pulling the strings.

Jamie Allen then scoffed a shot wide then moments later a loose ball broke to Jeff King inside the penalty area.  With his back to goal he showed great strength to turn his man but as he was about to shoot, he was fouled, and Liam McAlinden did the necessary from the penalty spot.

The game became end to end.  Rooney and Barry both brought saves out of Sam Johnson then a super McAlinden run in which he left 3 defenders for dead ended with a Dixon save.  Barrow had penalty appeals turned down when Barry went down under a challenge.  Jeff King tried an audacious lob from 50 yards out and was narrowly off target as Town sought to confirm the win and they saw the game out with solid defending whilst still carrying a threat on the break.

All in all, a very well-deserved win was a fine reward for an excellent 2nd half performance which sets up Saturday’s home fixture against Solihull Moors.
