The Shaymen have faced The Coasters a total of eight times, in three different leagues within the Non-League pyramid. Town first faced the newly promoted Fylde in the Unibond League Division One North on a cold November day back in 2009. Goals from defender Steve Payne and two from James โ€˜Deanoโ€™ Dean kept Town on course for the title. Ten wins, a draw and a defeat at Prescot Cables the only blemish on the league record.

The return fixture an all ticket affair and supporter Jon Barnes wearing a wedding dress for the occasion, The Shaymen go behind before goals from on loan Fleetwood Town striker Michael Wilde and Nick Gray give Town the lead. A late floated free kick beats Jonathan Hedge to give both teams a share of the spoils.

The two teams would have to wait until 2016 to meet again this time in the Vanarama National League North. Big striker Tom Denton scoring in front of the Town fans before a quick-fire equaliser from The Coasters. Fylde went on to take the lead before a Danny Hone header from a corner levelled in the 72nd minute. Bohan Dixon firing across Steven Drench moments later won the tie for Fylde.

Town and Fylde met on the 14th April at The Shay later that season with a single Danny Row goal separating the sides on the day. That win all but confirming the Vanarama National League North title. The Shaymen would of course join Fylde via the playoff win versus Chorley a month later.

Town won the first of the Vanarama National League ties 2-1 at home thanks to two goals from Tom Denton. The first a shot from 35 yards plus from Adam Morgan which crashed off the bar with Denton there to nod in. The second coming from good work down the right from winger Josh Macdonald who squared for Denton to curl into Joel Dixonโ€™s top left hand corner of the South Stand goal.

Fylde won the reverse fixture on the Good Friday 2-0 with Town 15th in the Vanarama National League table following the result. Two defeats at Field Mill for The Shaymen since its opening at the start of the 2016/17 season.

A credible 0-0 draw at home last season. Niall Maher stepping in at the heart of the defence for suspended Captain Matty Brown after seeing red versus Hartlepool United weeks previous. Maher tasked mainly with keeping Coasters star striker Danny Rowe in check which he did superbly. One smart Sam Johnson save down low to his left one of only a few chances for Rowe on the night.

The two teams faced up in the final league game of the Vanarama National League campaign last season with Town finally breaking their duck at Field Mill. A Matty Brown goal was followed up by an own goal finishing the season off well for Town. Fyldeโ€™s attention then turned to the playoffs making the final before losing to Salford City 3-0 at Wembley.

Former players

Former players for both include attacking midfielders Michael Barnes & James Hardy. Strikers James Dean & Josh Wilson, plus finally Matty Kosylo who left The Shaymen at the end of his three year contract to sign for Fylde this pre-season.

Goalscorers vs Fylde

3 โ€“ Tom Denton

2 โ€“ James Dean

1 โ€“ Matty Brown, Danny Hone, Steve Payne, Michael Wilde, Nicky Gray, own goal.
