Town were defeated 1-0 by Wrexham last night in their first loss of the season so far, Jake Teagle spoke with manager Pete Wild after the game.

Jake T: Disappointing result tonight, but what were your overall thoughts on the performance?

Pete Wild: Yeh disappointing, never like to get beat. We had to withstand a lot of pressureΒ early doors; we knew we would do but I thought we did that well. We started to grow into the game late in the first half and in the second half I thought we were the better side. Especially when they went down to 10 men, we were dominant, there was only one team going to win it. But then (the goal) they’ve hit us on the break, we’ve switched off because we thought the referee was going to give a foul and he didn’t, which is uncharacteristic of us, we never do that. So, there’s a real learning curve in that respect and then late on we should have a nailed-on penalty.

Jake T: There may have been some question marks surrounding the red card, especially from the Wrexham fans, but what was your view on the decision?

Pete Wild: Yeh, it’s a nailed-on red card. There’s no disputing, he’s clear through on goal, which is disappointing because if we’re clean through on goal we’re probably going to score but he brings him down so there’s no doubt in my mind.

Jake T: On a more positive note, despite the result, tonight showed yet another impressive defensive performance so you must be pleased in that aspect?

Pete Wild: Yeh, of course, we’re very good defensively and we showed that again tonight. But what we didn’t show was our ruthlessness in front of goal. We knew we would have limited chances this evening and we had to take them better in front of goal which is really disappointing for us and we’ve spoken about that after the game that we’ve got take our chances better; we’ve got to get balls in the box with more quality and we’ve got to attack set-pieces better.

Jake T: Trip to Aldershot on Saturday and ahead of such a congested fixture list how will you be preparing the squad for the upcoming games?

Pete Wild: We looked very tired tonight, we’re going to make sure that we rest up and we’re ready to go for Aldershot on Saturday and see what that brings to us. We need to pay them the respect that they deserve, but I’m looking for a reaction now on Saturday with a positive result to get us back on track.
