FC Halifax Town started the season with a 4-1 victory over Ebbsfleet United at the Kufflink Stadium

We spoke to Cameron King after the game

He told the official website, “We spoke about getting off to a great start at the hotel last night. We did it last as year as well, obviously we didn’t keep it going, so hopefully this year we can get more of a foothold in the league and push on, because the boys were excellent today.”

“The sending off obviously helped, but against ten men it can be tough sometimes, especially in my position- if I’m playing as a 10, you’ve got the two centre half’s behind me and the two centre mids in front and every time I get the ball they’re just going to close the space, so it was certainly frustrating, trying to get the ball as much as I could and it was always going to take time to break them down.”

A number of new signings made their competitive debuts for Town this afternoon and King said; “They’re great team players, there’s a really good core, we’ve got a great chemistry about the team, so they’ve had to come in, make sure they’re the right players, and not disrupt that. The boys have been excellent so far, it’s been a pleasure to be part of the team this pre-season and I hope it stays that way and we can push on.”

The former Norwich man may have a job on his hands to snatch the Goal of the Season award away from Nathan Clarke, though.

“I’m going to have pull something out the bag at some stage!” King said. “I couldn’t be happier for him, it was absolutely superb, and you can tell by the boys’ reaction after how much he means to the side.”

King scored Town’s first goal of the new season after 10 minutes and said he’s aiming to add more to his tally throughout the campaign.

“It’s something I’ve been working on. Last season I didn’t have enough shots and I didn’t score enough goals, it’s something I need to add to my game. The gaffer spoke to me about it before the game and all week, so adding goals to my game is certainly something I need to improve. You’re not going to score if you don’t shoot, and today proved that. It had a little bit of movement, and the keeper spilled it.”

Town are back in action on Tuesday night with our first home game of the season against Hartlepool United, 7.45pm kick-off
