After FC Halifax Town’s 1-1 draw against Doncaster Rovers, Jack Earing spoke to Kelly Gilchrist to give his thoughts on pre-season so far.
He said: “It’s been great. All the lads have been welcoming and I feel like I’m settling in well. I’m in a car-school already, with Niall and Jamie.”
Earing was Town’s first signing of the season, joining from Bolton Wanderers. As a player, Earing likes to get the ball forward and help create chances.
He said: “I’m an attacking midfielder. I like to get on the ball. I like to create opportunities for the team. I’m hoping to chip in with a few goals as well.”
At just 20-years-old, Earing has taken the step up into men’s football after spending most of his tenure with Bolton playing with the youth teams.
He said: “I had a great 11 years there. It’s a proper family club. I loved my time there with the fans and the coaches. I felt like it was a time to move on and play some men’s football. I got a couple of games, one Championship game and two league cup games. We won the development league and national cup.”
Earing revealed that the issues currently at Bolton were part of the reason for him leaving. Whilst having the opportunity to play men’s football was too good to pass up.
He said: “There was interest at Bolton from January/February. There was an offer on the table there, but I didn’t know what was going on with Bolton, I still don’t. I thought the opportunity to come play men’s football in the National League, I couldn’t turn it down.”
Earing got his first minutes for Town against Farsley Celtic on Saturday. Earing also played against Doncaster and feels preparation is going well.
He said: “It’s good to get minutes in the tank. Personally, I thought I did well. But it’s preseason, you just want to get minutes under your belt. It’s good to have these games getting ready for the first game of the season.”
With Town not playing at home in the league until the second game. Earing will have to wait a bit longer to make his competitive home debut.
He said: “I’ve already been to the Shay. I came to watch a few games at the end of last season. The fans were great when I was there. It’s a big pitch so I’m looking forward to getting to play on it. I hope to be exciting when I’m playing. I hope to push on and do well for the team.
