For Craig Fleming, it all started out at Halifax Town back in 1990 as he made 57 appearances for his hometown club. Where has he been since leaving the Shay in 1991?

Craig was quickly introduced to topflight football, as he joined Oldham Athletic in 1991 when they were a first Division club.

Fleming impressed so much during his time at Boundary Park, the Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson described the defender as “the best man to man marker in the county” after keeping tabs of Ryan Giggs.

From 1997 to 2007, Fleming spent his playing time at Carrow Road, scoring 12 goals in nearly 400 appearances for the club. Despite suffering several injury setbacks in his early years in Norfolk, Craig became a first team regular for the remainder of his career with the Canaries.

Midway through his spell with Norwich, Craig Fleming was inducted into the Norwich City Hall of Fame and made his 300th appearance in 2004 against Everton.

Following City’s promotion to the Premiership, Fleming made a league record for that season by spending more minutes on the pitch than any other topflight player that season – not bad going when you’ve got Thierry Henry playing the same League as you.

Unfortunately, the season ended in relegation for the Canaries meaning that they returned to Division One. Fleming would remain at Carrow Road for another two years.

Fleming’s achievements with Norwich were recognised in 2006 as a testimonial match was played in his honour. Despite falling to defeat against Newcastle United, Craig played most of the 90 minutes.

Craig’s career finished at non-league side Kings Lynn; however, he was forced into retirement due to a persistent ankle injury.
