Striker Lee Gregory made over 130 appearances for FC Halifax Town. Here we’ll look at his career before, during and after leaving The Shaymen for the Football League.

Born in Sheffield, Lee Gregory learned his trade as a striker in the Sheffield United academy. Gregory never made a senior appearance for The Blades and was released in 2008. Gregory joined Staveley Miners Welfare F.C in the Northern Counties East League, Gregory impressed scoring 37 goals in the only season he was with The Trojans he was picked up by Conference Premier side Mansfield Town for the 2009/10 season.

Gregory struggled to make an immediate impact The Stags, Gregory was sent out on loan to Glapwell and Harrogate Town before joining The Shaymen in the Spring of 2010.

Gregory initial joined as a backup striker for the run in to the Northern Premier League Division One North title campaign. Gregory certainly pulled his weight and scored an impressive five goals in 10 appearances, mainly coming off the bench.

In December 2010 Gregory’s moved to Town became permanent after a couple of appearances for Mansfield Town. He joined a lethal strike force that included Jamie Vardy and Danny Holland, as The Shaymen secured back-to-back league titles and promotions.
Town were now in the Conference North, with Vardy gone Gregory stepped up on the goal scoring front. Gregory bagged himself 18 goals finishing as Town’s top scorer. The Shaymen finished third in their debut season at that level since the reformation of the club. Unfortunately, The Shaymen couldn’t make it three promotions on the bounce as we lost out to Gainsborough Trinity.

Gregory and co came back stronger, getting themselves promoted from the division via the play-offs the seasons after. Gregory progressed again scoring 20 goals in the league campaign.
In his last season at the club he led the club all the way to the play-offs again in the Conference Premier turning plenty heads, scoring 29 goals in just 36 appearances. Once again Town would become unstuck in the play-offs and miss out on the Football League.

As Town missed out on the Football League Gregory wouldn’t be. Championship side Millwall came knocking and Gregory was sold for just shy of ยฃ280,000 in the Summer of 2014. Gregory finished his first season with The Lions as top scorer, but it wasn’t enough to stop the club from being relegated to League One. In 2016/17 Millwall ended a two-year absence and both Gregory and the club returned to The Championship. In the five seasons at the club Gregory had finished top scorer on four occasions.

The 2018/19 season would be his last at Millwall after 200 appearances with the London club. Stoke City are rumoured to be the strikers next club.
