FC Halifax Town’s season may have come to an end but that doesn’t mean that the Vanarama National League news wheel stops turning. Here’s everything you need to know from the final weekend of the season.
We can’t begin anywhere else than with FC Halifax Town’s very own Matty Brown making it into the final National League team of the weekend. His goal got The Shaymen off the mark in our 2-0 win against AFC Fylde in the final match of the season.
Speaking about the goal, Brown said: “It’s always nice to score, but I’m bothered about the clean sheet. Especially in front of the fans today, they came out in force. They were a different class as they have been all season. It was nice to cap it off and give the fans a win to go home with today.”
There were celebrations in the capital as Leyton Orient won the National League title on the final day. Orient’s 0-0 draw at home to Braintree Town was enough to earn them a return to the Football League as Salford City and Solihull Moors both failed to win.
Manager Justin Edinburgh said: “It’s a wonderful achievement from a wonderful group. There’s a pressure here, we know the fans have big expectations and why shouldn’t they? It was so important we delivered and today we got over the line. It’s been a great season. The boys have been fantastic, we want this to be just the start and hopefully the club can now really move forward.”
Ebbsfleet United manager Gary Hill has stated that he wants to remain in charge of the club next season. Despite not winning one of their final five matches, Hill has proved popular among the Ebbsfleet United supporters since taking over from Daryl McMahon in November.
There will be four new teams coming up to the Vanarama National League next season. Stockport County and Torquay United won the National League North and South respectively while we await the winners of the playoffs from each division. It’ll be an almost 600-mile round trip for the Town fans who travel to Torquay next season.
Finally, The Shaymen faithful will also have a trip to Yeovil Town to look forward to as The Glovers were relegated from League Two last weekend. Their 2-2 draw at Northampton Town wasn’t enough for Football League survival so it’s the first time since 2003 that they will play non-league football.
