FC Halifax Town drew 2-2 with Bromley on Saturday in their penultimate home game in the Vanarama National League. Josh Staunton spoke to Shaymen TV after the game, beginning with his thoughts on the game.

“It probably wasn’t the prettiest game on reflection. Think it’s difficult for both teams to get into a flow when the pitch forces mistake out of you. I pity the supports because it probably wasn’t the prettiest game to watch. But there were some very good goals mine included.”

The midfielder then talked us through his goal.

“The goalie dropped it; it came to me. I decided to use my head this time instead of kicking it over and just nodded it in.”

Then onto his performance in the middle of the park.

“I think I won a fair few second balls, it is quite an ugly role when the game pans out like that. It is hard to get on the ball and pass it around. So yeah I try to win as many headers and second balls as I could and contribute to the team that way.”

Town conceded with five minutes left to go.

“I couldn’t tell you what went wrong probably a bit too soon after the game. I personally thought it was a foul on Berrett, but it didn’t get given. From there I think we were just a bit too slow to react to the ball being turned back over. It’s just one of them that is not a good goal to concede. It was quite a sloppy goal; we’ve just got to take it and move on.”

To finish Staunton gave his thoughts ahead of the Easter weekend double header, against Hartlepool on Good Friday then at home to Wrexham on Bank Holiday Monday.

“Just really looking forward to them. I like the nice quick turnover and just really focus on football it’s really nice.”
