FC Halifax Town were beaten 1-0 by Maidenhead in a scrappy game at the MBi Shay Stadium.

After the game, Shaymen TV spoke to Cameron King to get his thoughts on the game.

β€œIt was just bitterly disappointing really, we never really tested their goalie. We struggled to get a foothold in the game. They really slowed the tempo down, every time we tried to get going, the ball was going out for a goal kick or a throw-in. It was just frustrating from the start. With the decision for the penalty, I want to see it back really because I don’t know if it was or wasn’t. There wasn’t a lot else in the game, so I’m just really frustrated.”

As King mentioned, it was quite a difficult game for the midfielder to do what he wanted, considering the pitch conditions and tightness of the game.

β€œYou don’t want to make excuses, but the pitch wasn’t really playable if you want to get the ball down and really play some football. It was always going to be a battle and we knew what we were going to get with the game, but we couldn’t match them today. It was just frustrating that we couldn’t get a foothold in the game and play the way we wanted to play.”

β€œEvery time I tried to get on the ball it was bobbling up at my knee. Every time I try to look forward and there was a couple of times where I tried to slide Devante (Rodney) in, and it just wouldn’t sit for me. Maybe, I should have tried to shoot more and test the goalie. It was just one of them where I struggled to get on the ball and create like I usually do, so just frustrating.”

Devante Rodney and Manny Duku were announced to have signed on loan until the end of the season before the game. King had his say on the pair.

β€œIt is massive for us. The physical presence is there for everyone to see and they’re a threat. Devante’s pace in behind and his movement is good. Today, we just couldn’t get the ball down and set them. They’re a physical side, and they matched them both, making it frustrating for them as well today.”

King gave us his thoughts on the trip to Leyton Orient next week.

Obviously, it’ll be a tough one, they’re flying and need a win. We had momentum before this game, so we need to go there and really pick it back up. I feel we do pick ourselves up for the big teams and match them, so that’s what we’ll be looking to do.”
