After Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw at home to Ebbsfleet United, skipper Matty Brown spoke to Shaymen TV starting with his thoughts on the game.
“It was a tight game, we had a few chances early doors and they had a few. But overall it was an even game a draw was probably a fair result, it was a bit stale both teams were a little bit stale. At times it felt like a pre-season friendly, but you get them games coming into this stage of the season, it can fizzle out, but we’ve got to not allow that to happen. Our performance was a little bit drained today, playing on that pitch it doesn’t help but they’re not excuses we’ll rejuvenate now and go again Saturday.”
But two early chances in the first 90 seconds, things could’ve been different.
“It happens like that; a lot of games are pretty boring it started really well for us on another day you find yourself one or two goals up. But that didn’t happen today, and it is just one of them where you’ve just got to brush ourselves off and go again Saturday.”
Michael Duckworth and Niall Maher unfortunately were forced off with injury, forcing the Shaymen into a tactical reshuffle.
“It doesn’t surprise me with Staunton, for me he’s somebody is really unlucky not be in the team every week. He’s a good footballer a really good professional he does everything right day to day and the fans don’t see much of him, but he is a real player, he’s just had a real unlucky season with the form of other players. But he’s come in a it doesn’t surprise me how well he has slotted in because he does things right Monday to Friday.”
50 points was the target got that now, what is the target for the remaining now?
“I am happy with where we are at, but we don’t just want to see the season out now. Me personally I think we are safe now, but we’ll look past that and just keep trying to get as many points as we can. There will be no fizzling out of our season we can’t allow that to happen we’ve still got six games left and we want to show what we are about at this club, we work hard on the training pitch and we won’t have our holiday minds on things at all. We really want to finish strong in the season because momentum can carry you on for next season. We’ve got no fear in this side and with a few good additions I’m sure we could give next season a real good go.”
On Saturday, it’s potentially the last appearance in the Shaymen colours for the two loanee Manny Duku and Devante Rodney.
“They’ve been different class since they’ve come in. Manny everyone can see his attributes, he’s big he’s tall he’s got good pace and scored goals for us. He’s a bit of a unique character he’s a bit…strange shall we say, but he’s been a good lad since he’s come in and he’s made people laugh with his personality and his enthusiasm and his energy about the place, contributed with important goals. Devante he’s 20 years of age and he’s come in and scored more than Manny. His impact on the pitch allows the rest of us defenders to get up the pitch and take a bit of pressure off at times and he’s chipped in with goals and they have both got bright futures.”
