FC Halifax Town face Maidenhead United this Saturday. Ahead of the fixture, here’s a look at ten things you may not have known about the Southern side.
- Maidenhead have played at York Road since 1871 making it the oldest senior football ground continuously used by the same club.
- Established in 1870, Maidenhead were one of the 15 founding members of the FA Cup. Losing to Crystal Palace in the second round.
- Maidenhead were founding members of the Southern League, joining Division two in 1894. They finished bottom three times before leaving in 1902.
- Current players James Comley and Adrien Clifton have both made five senior appearances for Montserrat international team, with Clifton scoring once.
- Maidenhead reached the national league for the first time in 2017. They won the National League South by two points over Ebbsfleet United.
- In their first season in the 5th tier they recorded a respectable 12th placed finish. They also reached the first round of the FA Cup losing 2-0 to Coventry City.
- Maidenhead currently play their home matches in black and white. It was black and red but after a merge with Maidenhead Norfolkians, they removed the red in favour of white.
- They have won the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup 22 times but haven’t won it more than three times in a row.
- Maidenhead managed their record attendance in 1936 when they had 7920 in attendance. They faced Southall in the FA Amateur Cup quarter-final.
- Halifax have only beaten Maidenhead once. This came in September of 2017 where Town won 3-2 at the Shay.
