FC Halifax Town fell to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Dover Athletic. Jamie Fullarton spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.
He said: โIโm disappointed to lose any game. On reflection of it, whilst we underperformed, I think a huge influence of the game came down to the elements. I didnโt think we really coped well against a team that are fighting for their lives. I think the elements ruined the game and made it very difficult. We didnโt adapt well enough. When you look at all three goals, it showed that the wind contributed to them.โ
Dover opened the scoring in controversial fashion as the ball appeared to hit Jai Reasonโs arm during the build-up. Fullarton believes there was a lack of consistency in refereeing that ultimately cost the team.
He said: โThe players are adamant there were two incidences which led to the goal. With the header there was a high kick, which ironically was given against us in the last five minutes. So, thereโs a little bit of a lack of consistency or understanding from the referee. It led to players getting booked because they challenged the referee because they were adamant that there was a handball.โ
Again, Dover seemed to get lucky as a cross-come-shot from Anthony Jeffrey found the bottom corner to make it 2-0. Matty Kosylo pulled one back after heading a long ball over Lee Worgan and into the back of the net.
He said: โWe went in 1-0 down with the wind against us. As we came out for both goals in the second half the wind was on the assist chart.โ
Ryan Gondoh signed a loan deal on Friday and made his debut, coming on as a sub in the 84th minute. Fullarton was happy with his contribution despite limited minutes.
He said: โRyan came on, heโs just joined up with us yesterday. He gives us something different to what we have. Obviously, weโve lost two players who we did have on loan and itโs well documented the long-term injuries that wonโt play again this season. Itโs important that we try and maintain competition for places in the run-in for the last eight games.โ
Town failed to win for the first time since the 9th of February. Whilst itโs disappointing not to get the win, we still have a good record recently.
He said: โWeโll look for the next game which is obviously Solihull Moors. Weโll look to prepare correctly and perform like we have done against them this season in the three games that we have played.โ
Town face Solihull Moors at home on Saturday 23rd March at the MBI Shay Stadium. This will be the 4th time we have faced each other this season and Fullarton is confident the team is up for the challenge.
He said: โTheyโre consistent in what they are and what they do. Hopefully we will be back to the level of consistency in terms of performance. Hopefully then thatโll result in the three points.โ
