FC Halifax Town travel south to the Silverlake Stadium on Saturday (3pm KO) to take on Eastleigh in The Vanarama National League.
The Shaymen go into Saturday’s game on the back of a 0-0 draw at home to Havant & Waterlooville at The Shay. The main flashpoint of the game came midway through the first half as James Berrett was shown a straight red card for a late challenge. However, despite having a man disadvantage for the majority of the game, Town held on for a point. The draw meant it was Halifax’s fifth clean sheet in their last six games.
In spite of Town’s positive defensive record of late, they have only scored one goal in their last six National League games. Speaking after the Havant game, manager Jamie Fullarton acknowledged Town’s lack of goals saying: “We need to score more goals, we had options on Tuesday night (vs Maidstone), but we have been decimated this week”.
The Shaymen were without Cameron King, Dayle Southwell, Sanmi Odelusi, Joe Skarz and Ben Tomlinson for the Havant game and all remain doubtful or face late fitness tests for the trip to Eastleigh.
As aforementioned, Town will be without James Berrett for the trip to Eastleigh as he will serve a three match suspension for his dismissal against Havant.
The Shaymen go into the game in 15th place.
As for Eastleigh, they enjoyed a 0-2 victory away to Salford last time out. Forward Paul McCallum grabbed a brace for Ben Strevens’ side. McCallum’s two goals meant he has now notched a brace three times in Eastleigh’s last three games.
The win saw Eastleigh climb into the playoff places in the National League table as they now sit in 5th position.
Since the start of 2019, Eastleigh has been in some great form. In seven National League games, they have managed six wins and a defeat which as aforementioned has seen them climb up the table into the playoff places.
The aforementioned Paul McCallum will be the danger man for the hosts as his heroics against Salford helped him reach 21 National League goals, a goal behind National League top scorer Danny Rowe.
Peter Gibbons will take charge of the game on Saturday and will be assisted by Michael D’Aguilar and Jonathon Block. Mike Desborough will be the fourth official
Gibbons last officiated a game involving Town back in August when he oversaw The Shaymen’s 1-0 win over Gateshead.
