Good afternoon, and welcome to you all. I’m not certain whether I’ll be undertaking my “bucketeering” duties today, or if I will be somewhere in the immediate locality completing Phil Knott’s latest sponsored walk! Either way, I intend making some money for Supporters Club funds.
There’s plenty in the offing for you to assist in this matter. On Friday 8th March, we are holding our annual Fun Race Night in conjunction with the RAOB. The venue will again be the Belgrave Social Club on Claremount Road. First race will start at 8pm (equine flu allowing), and it would be nice to see a decent crowd attending. All the horses and other sponsorships have been eagerly gobbled up, so it just remains for you to come and join us on the night.
The very next day sees the Supporters Club sponsoring the home match against Ebbsfleet United. Decent food will again be on offer in the MBI Shay’s hospitality suite, and (just to remind you) there is also a free programme on offer, as well as the opportunity to join the pre-match and post-match presentations, plus the chance to nominate the official man of the match. The cost per person is £40 for season ticket holders; £50 for everyone else. Just speak to any Committee member should you wish to join us for this extravaganza.
Moving on to our regular extract from the “Halifax Town AFC Official History Handbook 1892 to 1922/3” This is the section entitled “Cup Tie Success”:
The following season (1912-13) admission was secured to the Midland League, and several new faces appeared in the team, notable among them being Farren (Hull City), McAllister (Blackburn), Green (Heckmondwike), Simons (Sheff Utd), McGovern and Whyte (Leith Athletic), Roscoe (local), Doggart (Mirfield) and Pentland (Middlesborough). The last-named was the famous international centre-forward. This was the season when the club attracted the attention of the entire football world by entry to the first round proper of the FA Cup.
