FC Halifax Town picked up a point after being held to a 0-0 draw against Aldershot Town.

Neither side created many chances and Aldershot will be happy to have kept their first clean sheet since New Yearโ€™s Day.

A slow start to the game saw Aldershot get the first real chance. Bernard Mensahโ€™s cross was well blocked by Ryan Sellers for a corner. John Goddard stepped up and went short. Aldershot managed to get a shot away, but Sam Johnson had an easy save.

Only a few minutes later and Halifax had their first chance. Sellers found space down the left-hand side and swung a cross in. Scott Quigley got his head to it, but Jake Cole pulled off an excellent save to palm it away to safety.

A few minutes before half time, Halifax won a free kick mid-way into the Aldershot half. Ben Tomlinson swung it in and found Nathan Clarke, but his header was deflected for a corner. Again, Tomlinson stepped up, Matty Brown met it at the back post but his header across goal was cleared away.

Just over half an hour into the game and Mensah couldnโ€™t carry on. What looked to be a serious injury halted the game for several minutes as he received treatment. The stretcher was brought on, but Mensah was just about able to walk off the pitch with the aid of two physios. Mensah was then replaced by Reece Grant.

The second half continued in the same fashion as the first. A succession of cornerโ€™s for Halifax came to nothing. A Halifax break a few minutes later again failed to end in a goal as neither side looked capable of finding the net.

Rollin Menayese received the first booking of the afternoon after a poor challenge on Scott Quigley after he had turned one man. The free kick came to nothing after Niall Maher sent his shot wide of the post.

Halifax debutant James Hardy was introduced in the 59th minute as Town looked to break the deadlock. One of his first pieces of action saw him brought down by Jake Gallagher who received the gameโ€™s second yellow card.

Again, Town had a good chance to get a goal. Scott Rendell pulled Hardyโ€™s shirt to give the Shaymen a free kick. Up stepped Sellers who put a good ball in, but resolute defending from Aldershot kept the scores level.

The Shaymenโ€™s second substitution of the game came on the 70th minute when Jonathan Edwards was brought on for Tomlinson who is almost back to full fitness after an injury. Aldershot made their second change of the night just four minutes later. Gallagher was brought off for Adam McDonnell after Gallagher picked up a booking.

Aldershot came close as Goddard made his way into the box. He whipped a low ball across the box, but no one was there to tap it home. Halifax made a break and won a free kick in a dangerous position. Sellers put a cross in, but Niall Maher was offside.

Halifax had a good chance just six minutes from time as Matty Kosylo beat two men before sending in a low ball across the box. Cole palmed it straight to Brown, but his shot was well blocked by Dominic Bernard.

The result sees Halifax fall closer to the relegation zone with just two points separating them from the bottom four. Aldershot remain third from bottom, seven points adrift of safety.
