Following FC Halifax Town’s 1-0 defeat to Chesterfield, Shaymen TV spoke to full-back, Joe Skarz, to gain his thoughts on the game.

“We’re thoroughly disappointed”, stated a visibly deflated Joe Skarz when asked on his thoughts on the game.

On the day, The Shaymen defended admirably throughout the majority of the game, repelling the Spireites’ bombardment of crosses in to the box.

However, the key turning point in the game was when Scott Boden was adjudged to have been bundled over in the box. The former FC Halifax man then scored the subsequent penalty and the only goal of the game.

Skarz said: “It’s obviously hard to tell [if it was a penalty], obviously the player’s quite clever, felt some contact and the referee gave the decision. We can’t change that.”

The Shaymen didn’t play last weekend, but Skarz was adamant that “it didn’t play a part”, continuing to say: “We would have liked to of had a game following the performance against Salford, but it wasn’t to be. So no, I don’t think it played a part at all.”

Despite the result meaning that The Shaymen are now two points above the relegation zone, Skarz remained optimistic that his side can change their fortunes: “Yes, definitely yes [we can turn it around]!”

“We have to stay positive, there’s always people to knock you down but you have to remain positive, keep believing and keep working hard. Hopefully it’ll turn around for us.”
