FC Halifax Town make it their 7th game in a row in the league without a win, after losing to a Chesterfield penalty midway through the second half. Matty Brown conceded the penalty for Scott Boden to bury the opportunity and give Chesterfield the three points.

It’s safe to say we didn’t get the most exciting first half display from either side as both sides defended strongly to keep each team getting through the back. A first half full of decent but not great chances. The first chance came where Quigley was fouled on the edge of the box, Kosylo stepped up to take it and his firm effort was tipped over, but no real trouble for Chesterfield’s keeper Shwan Jalal.

Chesterfield had majority of the possession in the opening 15 minutes of the game, their first chance came on the 14th minute, where a ball was whipped in to the head of Robbie Weir who placed his header into the left corner of Sam Johnson but a strong hand by Johnson prevented the ball going into the net and out for a corner instead.

One of the Shaymen’s best chances of the first half happened to be a cross nearly sneaking its way into the net. Jordan Preston held onto the ball on the right and whipped a lovely ball in and the keeper had to make sure and push the ball over the bar.

Lee Shaw showed his shear pace for Chesterfield as he blitzed past Matty Kosylo out wide, ran with the ball into the box and smashed his effort at Sam Johnson who pushed the ball wide, pulling off a great save.

The best chance of the half came for Chesterfield as the ball was sent forward to the right foot of Marc Antoine-Fortune who found himself 8 yards away from goal and glided the ball just passed the post.

A battle of the defences in the first half, as neither side had great chances and it was the right result going into half time.

Both sides had things to play for in the second half as the game could’ve gone either way.

Chesterfield came more out of the blocks early in the second half but the Shaymen defence were standing firm and keeping the likes of Boden and Fortune out. A couple of half chances came there way but nothing concrete.

The 67th minute struck and a slight push from Matty Brown on Scott Boden was awarded a penalty by the referee. Boden made no mistake and sent Sam Johnson the wrong way which sent Chesterfield into the lead.

A few minutes after Sam Johnson kept the Shaymen in the game after a first shot from Boden was blocked for a corner, then Hollis made Johnson produce a cracking save to keep it at 1-0.

In the last ten minutes FC Halifax Town stuck the pressure on but struggled to breakthrough a strong Chesterfield defence today. In the 89th minute Quigley was ever so close to giving the Shaymen an equaliser. A cheeky ball from Kosylo over the Chesterfield defence and Quigley stretched to get his head on it but it was just too much for him and his header was just over the bar, which meant a loss for the Shaymen on the road.

FC Halifax Town now sit in 16th place, only two points clear of relegation. Every game coming up for the Shaymen now is a big one. Starting with Aldershot next weekend at the MBi Shay Stadium. The boys need your backing and continued support, so come on down next Saturday to show your support.
