FC Halifax Town travel up to Barrow on Saturday to play Ian Evatt’s side who they beat in the first round of the FA Trophy last month.

The man we’re going to take a look at from Barrow’s side is John Rooney.

Rooney is an attacking midfield player who loves to get on the ball in threatening situations and play it forward to the strikers.

He can also play in a deeper midfield role, and act as a general in the middle dictating the play.

The 28-year-old is an experienced player having played at many different levels. He was on Everton’s books from the age of 6 and was released 6 years later. After being released from Everton’s academy he was snapped up by Macclesfield where he made his professional debut 6 years later. He stayed with Macclesfield in League two for three seasons before making the trip across the pond to sign for New York Red Bulls.

After his spell abroad, he moved back to Barnsley but didn’t feature for the club when they were in the Championship. He then had a quick spell at Bury, where he was shipped out on loan to Chester. He then had a great spell a Chester where he scored 26 goals in 112 games.

Then with successful spells with Wrexham and Guiseley before he signed for Barrow last year.

He’s scored 6 goals this year from a midfield position and has helped Ian Evatt receive manager of the month for December with his influential performances.

He’s from a footballing family as well. You may have heard of his older brother, DC United striker and England legend, Wayne Rooney. His cousin also used to play for Macclesfield as well.

The game kicks off at 3:00 pm on Saturday, we will have live commentary from the game if you can’t make the trip to Barrow.
