In February this year our supporters football team AFC Halifax will have been playing games all over the country on a Saturday morning for 13 years. The club have had much success both on and off the pitch. Playing in the national IFA League against other professional teams supporters teams. They have finished as runners up last season in the English League, ending up 2nd to Preston North End. A few years ago they reached the semi final of the national cup only to be knocked out to eventual winners Preston North End (there is a pattern developing here!) The team has been very successful in the annual Worldnet tournament, which has over 32 teams from all over the UK being the first and only team to win the tournament in consecutive years. A feature of the Worldnet tournament is a vets event for any player aged over 35 and again the team has had the honour of winning this competition on 2 occasions and being runners up on another 2 occasions. The club doesn’t stop there, they have played games on Deepdale, Aggborough and of course the hallowed turf here at The Shay. Off the pitch the club have been very active in raising money for Macmillan cancer support, a charity very close to the clubs heart, and at this moment in time the amount raised is in excess of ยฃ15000, walking the 3 peaks, running the Leeds 10K on numerous occasionsย and with more to come this spring with a football fun day at The Shay the future looks good.

The club are looking for new recruits to join the squad, age and ability is not an obstacle that is put in the way as they have players aged 15 up to 55, so if you enjoy a game of football and have a passing interest in in FC Halifax Town then why not get involved with like minded people. It’s a great way to play the sport you love and have a great time doing just that. The team will be having weekly training sessions at Calderdale College on the 4G pitch every Tuesday from 6pm till 7pm
