FC Halifax Town welcome Braintree Town in the next round of Vanarama National League this coming Saturday down at The Shay for a 3pm kick off.

The Shaymen finished the festive period unbeaten in their fixtures against Harrogate Town and Gateshead. Braintree claimed three points out of a possible nine over the festive period as they beat Maidenhead 1-0 away from home on the 29th December.

The Shaymen come into this game with one defeat in five that was a 1-0 loss to Sutton United at home. Town have dropped a place to 17th after Bromley were able to beat Sutton in the evening kick off on New Year’s Day. If the Shaymen get the three points they want, they can jump back up the table to 14th.

Braintree will travel up to West Yorkshire with only four wins in the league to their name. The Iron prefer to play on the road with three of their wins coming away from home and half of their draws have also come on the road.
With only four wins this season it’s no surprise to find Braintree at the foot of the Vanarama National League table with 18 points, eight points away from safety.

The Iron didn’t start the new year positively as they lost 4-0 at home to Ebbsfleet United. Before that Braintree didn’t have a happy December as they claimed four points out of a possible 15, the win against Maidenhead and a 1-1 draw to Boreham Wood. That win against Maidenhead came just shy of two months from their last league victory against Bromley on the 30th October.

The Shaymen finished the Yorkshire derby with a point thanks to Jonathan Edwards scoring the equaliser in the 90th minute, after George Thomson scored a fluky cross that found the far corner lobbing Sam Johnson to take the lead in the sixth minute. Much like the Boxing Day fixture, Town again finished the stronger of the two sides after another dominant second half performance and will be looking to carry on where they left off on Saturday.

If you are unable to get down to The Shay for the 3pm kick off this Saturday, you can listen to live commentary on Shaymen Audio from the ground at 2:50pm.
