Ahead of the visit of Braintree Town to The Shay in The National League, hereโ€™s a look at some of the previous clashes between the two sidesโ€ฆ

The sides have met seven times in their respective histories, with all games taking place in the league.

2018-19

The Shaymen and The Iron have already played against each other this season as the sides faced off on Matchday 1 of the new National League season at Braintreeโ€™s Cressing Road Stadium. It was a winning start for The Shaymen as they won 0-2 in early August. Jonathan Edwards broke the deadlock just before half time with a header from a corner. The visitors had to wait until the 65th minute to double their lead. Nathan Clarke rose highest on this occasion as his header secured the three points for Jamie Fullartonโ€™s side on Matchday 1!

2015-16

It was three seasons prior to the meeting in August 2018 since the sides last met. The first meeting in 2015-16 came in November 2015 at The Shay and what a game it was as nine goals were produced between the two sides! Unfortunately for Halifax, they were on the wrong end of a 3-6 defeat on this occasion as a Michael Cheek hat trick helped The Iron towards three points. Alex Woodyard opened the scoring in the 4th minute for Braintree, however their lead lasted just five minutes as Jordan Burrow responded for The Shaymen to bring the game level. Cheek grabbed his first of the game in the 18th minute to see Braintree take the lead for the second time. Six minutes later, Braintree doubled their lead as Cheek doubled his tally. In what was a crazy first 30 minutes of the game at The Shay, it got worse for Town as Braintree scored a fourth courtesy of Kenny Davisโ€™s penalty. The game became even madder as Halifaxโ€™s Shaun Tuton grabbed a brace of his own in the next 12 minutes, leading to the game having SEVEN goals before half time. The half time whistle blew, with Braintree leading 4-3. The second half began, and Cheek was able to bag his hat trick goal in the 49th minute with a fine volley. Braintree notched up their sixth goal with 33 minutes remaining as Sammie Szmodics got in on the act as Braintree triumphed in this nine goal game.

In the league reverse fixture in Essex, Braintree secured a league double over The Shaymen as they recorded a 2-0 victory in February 2016. The home side got off to a fantastic start as Kenny Davis scored The Ironโ€™s first in the very first minute! Halifaxโ€™s attempts to get back into the game were hindered by Kevin Robertsโ€™ sending off in the 57th minute for two bookable offences. Braintree had to wait until the 67th minute to score their second as Michael Cheek scored his fourth goal in two games against Halifax, which as aforementioned assured Braintreeโ€™s league double over Halifax for the 2015-16 campaign.

2014-15

There wasnโ€™t as much goalmouth action in the 2014-15 season between The Shaymen and The Iron. The first meeting that season came in Braintree as the teams played out a goalless draw in September 2014.

However, at The Shay in February 2015 there was a little more to shout about as Jamie Jackson played the role of super sub for The Shaymen as he produced a last gasp winner in the 91st minute to provide Halifax with a dramatic win!
