FC Halifax Town will travel up to Gateshead in the Vanarama National League in high spirits after Dayle Southwell’s 88th minute winner of Yorkshire rivals Harrogate Town. The Shaymen travel to Gateshead this Saturday for a 3pm kick off.

Town remain in 16th position on 30 points, but after the win the three points for the Shaymen have stopped the teams above from pulling away. Another three points away up at the Gateshead International Stadium will move the Shaymen up to 14th position should the Hartlepool and Barnet results go our way.

Gateshead go into Saturdayโ€™s fixture on the back of their own derby victory as they beat free-falling Hartlepool 2-1 at home. Two first half goals from Luke Armstrong was enough to see off their rivals. However, did get a little nervy for them towards the end, Tom White saw red in the 84th minute and Hartlepool pulled one back with three minutes of normal time remaining.

Gateshead currently occupy the final play-off spot in seventh on 45 points. With it all getting quite tight in and around the play-offs a win for the hosts could move them to fourth but a defeat could see them drop out of the play-off places.

The win against Hartlepool was Gateshead’s third in a row in the league. The other wins were a 3-2 victory away down in Maidstone and comfortable 2-0 win over Bromley.

But it hasn’t all been plain sailing for Gateshead this December, an exit in the FA Trophy first round against Salford City losing 3-1 with Armstrong scoring a last-minute consolation goal. Gateshead also didn’t start December how they would’ve wanted to be failing to make ground on teams above them as they lost 2-0 down at Leyton Orient.

The Shaymen will travel to Gateshead full of confidence after a dominant second half performance over Harrogate Town and will want to start the game at Gateshead how they started the second half at Wetherby Road. Town can be happy with their December after only suffering one defeat in five across all competitions.

The Shaymen will travel to Gateshead on Saturday the 29th December for a 3pm kick off. If you are unable to make the journey to the Gateshead International Stadium you can listen to live commentary from the ground on Shayman audio from 2:50pm.
