The young Shaymen lost a crucial 3 points in their 3-2 loss against York City to a last-minute goal.

The u19s turned up to the game full of hope and spirit as they needed the 3 points to put even more pressure on the top 3. Theyโ€™re two games in hand sitting 6th in the table with 12 points. The game was an intense one right from the off with both teams having good spells of possession. York found themselves playing long ball football towards their strikers a lot but the Town defence did well to handle the situations.

The first real chance in the first half came from a Halifax set piece. Edward Tordoff whipped the ball towards Jay Benn from a corner who found himself in acres of space and narrowly heading the ball over the crossbar. However, set pieces were coming a lot from the other end too with York City just not taking their chances.

Ousman Cham found himself in a position to put Town ahead as he was slid through 1 v 1 with the keeper. He had the option of cutting the ball back or shooting first time but instead chopped inside giving the York City defence time to intercept.

There werenโ€™t any goals in the first half, but the second half proved to be the turning point. Town started the half strong keeping the ball in the York City final third numerous times. The first goal came from Jake Taylor-Mountford who powered his header into the top corner putting the u19s ahead. However, not long after did York equalise as they got the ball out wide to the winger who curled his pass around the left centre back of Halifax Karamo Sesay. The pass looked overhit as Callum Bromley, the Halifax keeper come out to contest it. But Kiari Ventura of York was able to just get his foot round the ball.

The atmosphere of the game really began to change as both teams battled for the second goal. Fortunately, it was Halifax who went up ahead again with Jay Benn putting the team ahead with his first-time side footer which sprayed into the top right corner. York City began to put pressure on as they got a chance from a cross which Callum Bromley saved exceptionally well. They also had a couple freekicks which came close to being converted to goals, but the Halifax keeper did well to prevent this.

However, they equalised from Bromley stopping a cross which seemed have spilled out of his hands and the York city substitute was at the right place at right time as he was able to just get a toe to the ball a yard away from goal. The game got to its most intense period with only 2 minutes left to play. Ousman Cham tried to slide through Jake Taylor but the pass got intercepted. The York city centre half has then played a long ball towards the left wingback. The ball went over the Halifax right backs head and the wingback has tapped the ball around Halifax centre back putting him through on goal. Heโ€™s shot and placed the ball in the bottom right corner with only a minute left to play.

Halifax move on to next weeks friendly vs Sunderland AFC as the league starts again in the new year.
