FC Halifax Town came from behind to battle for a hard-fought draw against Boreham Wood at the MBi Shay Stadium.

With both sides registering first round victories in the FA Trophy last week it was back to league duties as the Shaymen were seeking a first league victory since mid-November.

The game began vibrantly for the visitors’ who pulled ahead courtesy of a powerful header from Justin Shaibu scoring his fourth goal since coming on loan from Brentford. As the game continued the game became locked in a midfield battle as both sides began to test each other’s defensive lines.

As Boreham pressed for a second goal, centre back Nathan Clarke was outstanding in delivering numerous blocks and defensive headers to keep Halifax in the game.Β  Around the half hour mark Halifax began to gain momentum as striker Dayle Southwell beat the offside trap and the goalkeeper only for his effort to whistle inches past the post.

Hanson was beginning to deliver dangerous runs into the Boreham box only to be prevented by some resolute defending.

The equaliser came as Southwell tried his luck again as loanee Jacob Hanson’s dangerous run had found the feet of Southwell who fired the ball into the bottom left hand corner.Β  This is now the first time Southwell has scored since the 2-0 victory over Warrington in the FA Cup.

As the half time whistle approached Southwell went close again but this time was unsuccessful having been denied by the stretched hand of Ryan Huddart.Β  Halifax entering the tunnel disappointed not to be in the lead.

The second half started again with the visitors on the front foot but unable to adequately test goalkeeper Sam Johnson. Gozie Ugwu with the most notable chance as he had found space on the edge of the box, but his effort was comfortably saved by Johnson.

In the closing phases, Boreham came again and this time Johnson had to be alert to tip the ball around his near post as substitute Sorba Thomas tried an ambitious effort from the edge of the box.

The referee brought the game to a close with the points shared and a fair result for both Halifax and Boreham.

FC Halifax Town next entertain Sutton United in a much anticipated game for the Shaymen and Boreham Wood next travel to Braintree.
