FC Halifax Town take on AFC Wimbledon in the Second Round of The FA Cup on Saturday afternoon at The Shay in front of the BT Sport cameras (12:30pm KO).

Halifax and AFC Wimbledon meet for the first time in The FA Cup in their respective histories. The game will be AFC Wimbledon’s first as a Football League club against Town.

The Shaymen made it into Round Two of The FA Cup for the first time since 2008 as they produced a cup upset by beating League Two Morecambe in a First Round Replay at The Shay last Tuesday. Cameron King’s first half solo effort was enough to see Jamie Fullarton’s side into the next round.

Last time out, Halifax were soundly beaten 4-0 by Ebbsfleet United in The National League. The result left The Shaymen 16th in the table. Town were scheduled to play Barnet at home on Tuesday evening (27th November) but the match was postponed in order for both Halifax and Barnet to be able to fully prepare for their respective FA Cup Second Round ties.

As for The Wombles, they have recently had a change in the dugout as Simon Bassey was appointed interim manager at Kingsmeadow following Neal Ardley’s departure from the club after six years in charge.

Wimbledon booked their place in Round Two without the need for a replay like their counterparts. They managed to beat Haringey 1-0 courtesy of Mitchell Pinnock’s late strike.

New boss Bassey has so far taken charge of three Wimbledon matches (all in League One), where they have won once and lost twice within that period. Most recently, they were narrowly beaten 1-0 away to Peterborough on Tuesday evening. The Wombles sit in 23rd position in the League One table.

Saturday’s game will be refereed by Ben Toner. Toner has refereed 16 games throughout The Football League so far this season. He most recently officiated the game between Oldham Athletic and Lincoln City, where he showed six yellow cards and one red. Overall this season, Toner has shown 38 cautions and 2 red cards.
