FC Halifax Town are through to the second round of the FA Cup after a 1-0 victory on Tuesday night against Morecambe in the first-round replay. We caught up with goal scorer Cameron King to hear his thoughts on the victory.
Cameron, through to the second round, how does that feel?
Yeah, itβs a great feeling, especially scoring what turned out to be the winner. Playing against a team that are a league above us, you want to go out there and prove a lot of people wrong and prove we can mix it with better opposition and today we did that, and I think we were better than them on both games. So, getting through we can go to Wimbledon and hopefully do it again.
So, can you describe that winning goal for me?
I saw Dayle and seen a lot of space behind their back four, I ran forward and luckily got on the end of it and I just had to beat a player and luckily enough I did that and just took a shot and it went in.
Do you feel the win on Saturday boosted the teamβs confidence for the game?
Absolutely, wins do. It was due, we had a lot of good performances in the games coming up to that win, but we werenβt getting the results. But in the last couple of days, two 1-0 wins shows what great character weβve got to grind out them wins, so yeah, I feel like we deserved it.
Bad conditions, how tough was it out there at the end?
Itβs obviously very wet, quite slippery on the ground, I prefer it quite zippy on the ground, itβs easier to receive the ball but it didnβt affect us too much, especially a lot of the lads love a slide tackle, so yeah, wasnβt an issue.
How much did the fans support push you for the win?
Massively, especially in that second half. When were under the cosh, itβs amazing to hear them really getting behind us and they did in the second half and we needed that twelfth man and thatβs exactly what they were.
So finally, back to league action on Saturday, a tough fixture away to Ebbsfleet?
Yeah, again weβll go there, two wins on the bounce now, so hopefully we can go there, get a result and really build some momentum going forward.
