FC Halifax Town recorded their first league win since the 27thof August with a 1-0 win over Dover Athletic. After the game, Shaymen TV spoke to Josh Staunton.

โ€œItโ€™s good to be back in the three points and have that win under our belts, it really gets a monkey off our back. Although the second half probably wasnโ€™t the prettiest. We were under the cosh in that second half, but we dug in. We were always going to be anxious getting close to that first win for a while so itโ€™s good to get the result.โ€

โ€œI thought in the first half we did well. We had stages when we dominated, and they had stages when they played better than us. We probably had chances to get another goal, like when Dayle (Southwell) hit the crossbar, if we score them then itโ€™s probably a different game.

โ€œIn the second half, especially later in half, we missed a couple of chances and they put a lot of pressure on us, lumping a few men forward. Thatโ€™s expected when theyโ€™re such a big team, but we stood up to them well.โ€

The Shaymen took the lead in the 42ndminute with Matty Kosyloโ€™s deflected effort flying into the top corner of the net and it was a great time to score according to Staunton.

โ€œIt was a good time to score, it changes how we went in at the break. It gave us a lot more confidence in the way we played after that and we created another chance quickly. So, it was a good confidence booster and added a bit of morale for everyone.โ€

Sitting in the stands, we felt anxious watching the last minutes of the cagey affair, Staunton agreed but said he loves that type of game.

โ€œIf youโ€™re feeling nervous, Iโ€™m feeling double nervous! Them sort of games as a defender you kind of relish. It doesnโ€™t sound like a pretty thing to say but as a defender thatโ€™s what youโ€™re there for, heading things away and putting your body on the line. I personally enjoy them kind of games and you walk off feeling happy to have held on.โ€

Staunton has started a quite a few games in the defensive midfield role with Niall Maher, he spoke about the partnership between the two of them.

โ€œNiallโ€™s a bit more attacking than I am, he pushes on a bit more than I do, I just tend to sit and hold. Weโ€™re starting to understand each other more. We started the season together and then both had a lengthy spell out, so weโ€™re just finding our feet in there.โ€

Itโ€™s a quick turnaround for The Shaymen with the FA Cup replay on Tuesday night against Morecambe. Staunton looks ahead to that game.

โ€œWeโ€™ve got to take a bit of momentum from today. Weโ€™ve already played them, so we know what theyโ€™re about. I donโ€™t think thereโ€™s anything to fear, so I think we go in their put on a good performance and try and get a result.โ€
