Ahead of this Saturday’s clash between FC Halifax Town and Dover Athletic in the Vanarama National League.

Due to the 280-mile distance between the two clubs, few players made appearances for both the Shaymen and the Whites, however, we look at two players who made the journey to play for both teams.

Dave Hanson

Hanson started his career at Manchester United with spells at Huddersfield Town, Farsley Celtic, and Bury before signing for the Shaymen in 1994. Hanson accumulated 43 appearances with 15 goals across one season with Halifax.

Hanson joined up with Leyton Orient in 1995 after a short spell with Hednesford Town. From Orient he went on various loan spells with a trip to Dover in 1997. Hanson only managed one appearance for the south coast side.

Hanson returned to the Shay for two more seasons, joining from the start of the 1997 season making a further 32 appearances, scoring 8 goals before being released at the end of 1998-99 season. Hanson returned to the Shay for a third time 2010 where he worked as a first-team physio before leaving less than a year later to take up a position at Bradford City.

Terry Dixon

A product of the Tottenham Hotspur youth academy, Dixon stayed with the Lilywhites for four years before West Ham picked him up on free in 2009. After making no appearances in just over year, Dixon left to join Stevenage 2010 before having brief spells at Ware, Tooting & Mitcham United before joining Bradford City all in 2011.

From Bradford, Dixon joined the Shaymen on loan during the 2011-12 season on a one-month deal with the striker going on to make 4 appearances. The loan spell was extended by another month, but the Bantams recalled him after Ross Hannah picked up an injury.

After less than four months contracted to Bradford, and Dixon left and joined Dover. Initially on loan, Dixon then expressed a wish to stay on the south coast for the rest of the 2011-12 season. He then signed another contract with the whites keeping him there until May 2013.

Dixon went onto to play for Dunstable Town, Berkhamsted, and Aylesbury.
