FC Halifax Town came away from Morecambe with their names in the hat for the 2ndround of the FA Cup after a 0-0 draw with the League 2 side.
After the game, Ryan Sellers spoke to Shaymen TV. He admitted it was a tough game for the side a league below their hosts, but they put in a very good effort.
“It was a good little test for us obviously them being the league above, but the boys did well, and we all fought hard to get the draw away from home and take it to our place where we can hopefully finish off the job and get the win.”
“It was quite an end to end game, especially towards the end. We obviously put one in the net which was flagged for offside, which is a bit sceptical I know but I’d like to see it. But it just shows we held our own and we’re more than capable of playing at a high level because the boys did really well”.
Sellers was the man to put the ball in the box as Edwards nodded home what everyone thought was the winner before the linesman put his flag up. He had his say on the incident.
“I’m still not sure, I’m going to wait to see it. I don’t think it was, but I might be corrected. I think it was onside but that’s just how football goes.”
With many players out, the man who usually plays at left back was moved into a more attacking role for the FA Cup tie today. While he’s not played there for Halifax before, he says he’ll always put his team first.
“It was different! It’s the first time I’ve played there in a long time but obviously, with injuries and suspensions I do what I can for the team and the manager asked me to do that, so it was no problem. But it was different from fullback, I got a little bit tired in the first half, but I caught a second wind and it was good.”
“I feel sorry for Kosy (Matty Kosylo) and Jordan (Preston) who have to do it on a weekly basis, so now I know how they feel.”
With this tie being the first round of the FA Cup proper. Sellers had his say on what it’s like to play in such a wonderful competition.
“I love it! It’s an occasion when you get to play teams that you might not get to play on a weekly basis. You get to come to different stadiums all over the country. I wouldn’t say it’s a break, because obviously you want to win every single game and play the best you can. But it is nice to come to established teams like this and put in a good effort.”
With the scores finishing at 0-0. The replay of the tie will take place on Tuesday the 20thof November at the MBI Shay Stadium and Sellers is confident going into it.
“I think the next tie will be like what we’ve seen today. I expect it to be end to end, where it’s quite open with lots of chances for both sides. We defended well, and we countered well, and we put the ball in the back of the net, but it was offside. So, I think we’ve got a really good chance of getting through to the next round.”
