Following Saturday’s 0-0 draw away to Morecambe, FC Halifax Town striker Jonathan Edwards spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

He said: “I thought we had the better chances, obviously, and in the game overall, scoring one as well but I don’t know if it was offside or not. But I thought that was a good team performance in terms of the build-up play to our chances that we created was a lot better than it has been in the past few weeks, so that’s a positive to take.”

The Shaymen created a number of chances and it was clear that Town could’ve come away with the win, Edwards echoed this statement as he said:  “Obviously with the chances, making the keeper work, we probably didn’t do as much in the first half, but we did it in the second half and I feel like it was just the rub of the green really. The keeper made a few good saves.”

Coming into this game and many would’ve said that Morecambe were favourites with them playing a league above the Shaymen. Edwards was pleased that the performance has put them into the hat for the next round.

“Yeah, to be fair I don’t think there was much difference in it in terms of style of play, we held our own and got our chances so yeah it’s good to be in the hat again and obviously the following Tuesday to make sure we go into the next round.” Edwards said.

Edwards had the best goal scoring opportunity of the game as he saw his header the back of the net only for it to be disallowed and ruled for offside. Edwards accepted the referee’s decision as he said: “My first thought was just ‘goal’ obviously I didn’t think I was offside but if they say it was offside then they have a better view of it than me, but my first thought was that I didn’t think it was offside.”

Halifax will have to face Morecambe again on Tuesday the 20th of November, which means the Shaymen will be in the hat for the Second Round of the FA Cup and Edwards has no preference as to the opposition.

He said: “A league team obviously again, a bigger one probably, maybe away at a nice stadium but obviously a home tie would be good against any team to progress.”

Finally, Town turn their attention back to the Vanarama National League next Saturday as they prepare to face Dover at home. Edwards believes that a similar performance will soon result in wins.

“It’s the same performance again, out here today we set our standards and we’ve got to continue doing that and as long as we can do the things that we are capable of doing then winning will take care of itself.” He said.
