A look back at each season FC Halifax Town has made it to the first round of the FA Cup.

2011-12

Despite the poor league form, Halifax were enjoying a good run in the FA Cup. The club reached the first round for the first time since their reformation and were drawn at home toย Charlton Athleticย who were five points clear at the top ofย League Oneย at the time. The tie was selected to be shown live onย ITV1. Town put in a fighting performance even though the tie ended with Charlton winning 4-0 after three late goals in the game. The goal scorers for Charlton were previous Premier League players such as Matty Taylor and Johnnie Jackson. Bradley Pritchard and Danny Hollands were also on the scoresheet. The record attendance for the club was also broken, with a crowd of 4,601.

2013-14

Back in 2013-14 season where Neil Aspin was in charge and FC Halifax Town were back in the Conference after winning promotion from the Conference North. Town secured at 2-0 win against Nuneaton in the fourth qualifying round which means they would face MK Dons in the first round. FC Halifax Town travelled to MK Dons who were in League One at the time. MK took the lead just before half time with Izale Mcleod scoring a cracker from 25 yards. Shaun Williams doubled the lead in the second half, then Mcleod got his second to make it three. Lee Gregory pulled a goal back from a tight angle to make it 3-1 with 15 minutes to go. But Brendon Galloway was there to end Halifaxโ€™s campaign and MK came away with a 4-1 victory.

2014-15

Halifax were on a poor league run this season but anย FA Cupย run saw Halifax get drawn against local rivalsย Bradford City. Halifax lost the match 2โ€“1 in front of a new club record 8,042 fans atย The Shayย which marked the start of Bradfordโ€™s infamous cup run in which Bradford reached the Quarter-finals. To say that Bradford stunned Chelsea 2โ€“4 in there cup run atย Stamford Bridgeย Halifax played very well to only lose 1โ€“2. An early goal at the Shay came from Lois Maynard and scenes escalated at the Shay. The Shaymen couldnโ€™t hold onto the lead though as within 8 minutes of the second half, Bradford grabbed two goals from Jon Stead and Filipe Morais to turn the game around and win 2-1.

2015-16

The season where Darren Kelly took over Neil Aspin and faced some humiliating results and the first round of the Fa Cup was one of them. FC Halifax Town drew League two side Wycombe at home, thinking they can pull off a shock. Wycombe took an early lead at the Shay with Gary Thompson slotting home. A goal down at half time, FC Halifax Town were still in the tie. Jombati extended Wycombeโ€™s lead though by making it two. Within the last ten minutes with Kretzschmar and Holloway doubling the lead to 4-0 and a sorrow defeat for FC Halifax Town.

2016-17

Town had a tough FA Cup test atย National Leagueย high-fliersย Dagenham & Redbridge. The Shaymen put in an impressive shift to bring the Daggers back to Halifax for a replay after a goalless draw. Town made hard work of the replay after outplaying their higher league opponents. Tom Denton got the first goal in the first half, to give the Shaymen the lead at the break. Things got better for the Shaymen, as Dagenham went down to ten with Oliver Hawkins receiving a red. On the 73rd minute Dagenham equalised as Whitely found the net to equalise. The extra man advantage gave FC Halifax Town a boost, as Matty Kosylo bangs home a beauty from 25 yards in the last minute to secure the victory for the Shaymen and send them through to a second-round tie against Eastleigh.
