FC Halifax Town went to Warrington Town to play their first FA Cup game of the season. The game ended 2-2, resulting in a replay on Tuesday night. Hereโ€™s what manager Jamie Fullarton had to say after the match.

โ€œI think Warrington deserved something from the game as plain as that. Some people get caught up in the romance of the cup, I donโ€™t like that. Especially when they see an opportunity for them to make a story for it. In the first half, in particular, it demonstrated how difficult the game was going to be. I donโ€™t think itโ€™s any coincidence how Warrington under Paul Carden have started this season.โ€

โ€œThat said, and adding what we are, it was disappointing. To go one up early on and they say goals change games and I thought that would have an impact and it backfired. They went on, had momentum after they scored and could have maybe been 2 up. Credit goes to the players for coming back after going behind and still being in the hat. At the end of the day, itโ€™s about winning the game and getting into the next round and weโ€™ve got another opportunity to do that at home on Tuesday.โ€

When speaking about going ahead so early and almost getting the perfect start, Fullarton wasnโ€™t sure how that impacted the game.

โ€œWhether the early goal altered the mentality or the thought process on how the game was going to turn out, then Iโ€™ll be disappointed if that was the case but individually and collectively we have to do better because it is a difficult game.โ€

The home side scored two well-worked goals today with Fullarton giving praises to his opposition today.

โ€œItโ€™s not that I donโ€™t like giving credit to the opposition. Itโ€™s the fact I like to look at what we could do better, thereโ€™s no doubt that Warrington deserved something today. Weโ€™ll get back to it Tuesday and perform how we can.โ€

Cameron King and Jonathan Edwards came off the bench today, ultimately helping The Shaymen to get that equaliser late on.

โ€œI thought the two substitutes that came on had an impact and changed the way the game went. We were one down and they impacted on us getting back into it and making it 2-2.โ€

With Halifax in the draw on Monday night, Fullarton is still solely focused on the replay on Tuesday.

โ€œItโ€™s the clichรฉ phrase, weโ€™re in the hat. But come Tuesday will we be in the hat or will we be out the hat? So, our focus is just on Tuesday. Itโ€™s a quick turnaround and itโ€™s important we approach the game as we do in a professional, organised, prepared manner. I look for a better performance, which will hopefully end up with a better result.โ€

The match will be replayed on Tuesday at the MBI Shay Stadium and Fullarton thinks the fans can help the side get through.

โ€œItโ€™s great when weโ€™re at home and the fans come out and support the players. It gives us that clichรฉ of having the 12th man and thatโ€™s we require because at the end of it thereโ€™s the reward of the first-round proper.โ€
