FC Halifax Town came away from their home game against Chesterfield with a point following a 1-1. A result which sees the Shaymen drop one place down to 14th.

Defender Joe Skarz spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the close game.

โ€œTough Game. It was physical with a lot of second balls. There was a lot of challenges in a tightly fought contest. I think weโ€™ve deserved the win, but these things happen, and we must move on.โ€

Despite plenty of late chances for Halifax, the points were shared and Skarz believes that the Shaymen deserved the win after the equaliser from Tom Denton.

โ€œThey got an equaliser and we had a few chances to get the 3 points: The keeper made a good save of Jordan (Edwards), we hit the bar, so it was a really good game with two teams battling for the 3 points.โ€

Skarz believed that Chesterfieldโ€™s style of play, utilising Denton as a target man, was always going to make things difficult.

โ€œThey had the big man up front and theyโ€™ve tried to play off him, so it was hard at the back, but I thought we coped well, and the performance was better than it has been.โ€

Having spent a few weeks on the side-line with an injury Skarz knows that he was rebuilding his match fitness as he said:

โ€œWhen you have a bit of time out with injury you always feel a little bit rusty in your first game and no matter what fitness youโ€™re doing when youโ€™ve had an injury you feel a bit tired, your legs feel a bit tired.โ€

For the first time, Jamie Fullarton decided to change up the formation which saw Skarz play out of his natural position of left back to fulfil a more central role, something he believes worked.

โ€œI thought we were quite solid throughout and we played some good football and the things weโ€™ve been working on in training we implemented, and we created lots of chances.โ€

Looking forward to next Saturday and the Shaymen travel away to face Warrington in the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup and this is a game Skarz accepts could be a potential upset.

โ€œTheyโ€™re the underdogs, itโ€™s a perfect game for them, difficult game for us so everyone will be looking at it, asking if it is going to be an upset, so weโ€™ve got to prepare right all week. Look at them and us and how weโ€™re going to beat them and how they play and how weโ€™re going to stop them.โ€
