Unfortunately, yesterday FC Halifax Town fell to their first home defeat of the season. James Berrett spoke to the official website after the match to give his thoughts on the afternoon’s events.

โ€œItโ€™s a strange one really. The second half was very strange. We stuck in there in the first half and I thought in the second half we came out a bit better and took it to them a bit more. The refereeโ€™s decisions killed us really, so it was always going to be tough to stay in the game with only nine men. To be fair we dug in and tried to create chances when we could, but it was always going to be difficult.โ€

As James mentioned, the second half took a strange turn with The Shaymen having two players sent off. There was a lot of confusion surrounding captain Matty Brown’s red card, so we asked James if he could shed some light on the situation.

โ€œNo, I didnโ€™t see it. I turned around and I thought their lad had hurt his head. I thought the ref had just stopped play for that but then everyone started running around and he gave a penalty and a red card. I donโ€™t really know.โ€

Despite going down to nine men, Town were able to get a goal back thanks to Jacob Hanson. James was quick to give his teammates praise for sticking in there to try and nick a result.

โ€œYeah, youโ€™ve got to keep going; you canโ€™t just give in. The fans helped us out as they knew it was going to be a tough task. We got a goal back and we couldโ€™ve maybe sneaked a chance at the end, but we just couldnโ€™t quite do it.โ€

It was the largest crowd of the season so far at the MBi Shay Stadium yesterday and James gave credit to the fans for sticking with the team despite the adversity they were facing.

โ€œIt was great and a huge shame we couldnโ€™t give them a result. When we had our backs to the wall with nine men, they were brilliant. Hopefully theyโ€™ll be back down and see us again.โ€

FC Halifax Town will now face AFC Fylde on Tuesday night at 7:45pm. You can view the full post-match interview with James Berrett on Shaymen TV right now.
