A trip to the York Road stadium ended in misery for FC Halifax Town, Saturday afternoon. The Shaymen left empty handed after a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Maidenhead United.
After what was a difficult first appearance coming back from injury, Sanmi Odelusi spoke to the club’s official website post-match. The winger gave some of his thoughts on the result and his return from a lay off that has seen him not play since pre-season.
Odelusi stated that despite a negative result, the players still have their heads up and are focussed on the next game.
“It was a difficult start to the game. When you concede three goals, it’s never nice. It’s never nice to concede three goals in the first half but we’ll learn from it and the good thing about this league is there’s loads of games left. So, we’ve got to take it on the chin, keep our heads up, the boys their heads are up already. We’re confident, we’ll go into the next game and hopefully we can get the three points.
When asked about his feelings regarding his own personal performance after returning from a lengthy lay off, Odelusi said:
“I haven’t played since the last game of pre-season, so it’s been a while waiting. For me, fitness wise, I felt alright after I played 60-65 minutes, which was alright. Hopefully, I can get more minutes and what not just to help the team and progress.
He also commented on the support he has received during his set back.
“The club stood by me. They’ve helped me with recovery and to see what the actual problem is. So, like I said it’s feeling better and I’m working hard in training but off the pitch as well. Hopefully, I’m back to full fitness now.”
Seeing his side unfortunate not to score in the second half especially, the 25-year-old accepted that these situations occur in football, saying:
“We were unlucky not to score at the end of the day but that’s part and parcel of football. Sometimes it happens you get a goal and you might not get a goal.”
With all attentions now firmly on a home clash with Hartlepool United at The MBi Shay Stadium, he refused suggestions that travel effects may have influence the result, whilst always showing his eagerness to get back in from of the home fans.
“Listen, you have to travel up and down the country. There have been games we we’ve travelled far and come away with a point. Sometimes it’s just not your day and it wasn’t our day today. Hopefully, we can bounce back.
“That’s the main thing, playing at home. Hopefully, I can enjoy it and we can come away with three points.”
