FC Halifax Town were unfortunate not to take all three points away from Leyton Orient after James Alabi levelled the scorings in injury time.
Town boss Jamie Fullarton who was presented with Vanarama manager of the month award ahead of kick-off said it was a hard two points to lose for his side.
βIt was so difficult to take, especially when your mantra is to try and win every single game. You get yourself in the lead into injury time and the score is 1-0 and you draw, it almost feels like a defeat. But youβve got to put it into reality, weβre playing against the joint league leaders and weβre disappointed at getting a 1-1 draw and you can tell they are delighted with that from their reaction. Youβve got to look how the game panned out as opposed to their performance in the first half. You look at their reaction for their goal and you can see they were more than delighted to get anything from the game. But overall, it was a difficult game and when you take all the emotion out of being 1-0 up in injury time at home, then was it fair? Probably yes.
Fullarton told us that heβll always go for the win, his attacking style of play becoming so successful for his side so far this season.
βWeβll never just go for a point. Iβll never take a point from any game because there is three on offer. You get a point to start with and Iβm never happy with what we start with so, therefore, if there is three on offer weβre going to try and take all three because thatβs the mantra.β
The manager was impressed with the way both sides played today as it was a very tight game on display at the MBI Shay Stadium today.
βThe way Leyton Orient performed in the first half showed us why they are unbeaten and why they were top of the league when they came into this game. Halftime was a good time for us because we didnβt perform as we have done, we didnβt play as well as we have done, we didnβt create the chances we have done in previous games, and yet we were still 0-0.β
βThis is great credit to the players and how they worked, how they kept their shape and made it difficult for the team that was top at the time to break us down. We altered one or two things at halftime just to help with the game plan in the second half and I thought it helped us.β
βYou look at the game and two great keepers and neither really had a save to make and it was 1-1 and that gives an indication whilst it was a difficult game not much was played in both boxes with both teams looking to show what theyβve done during the season so far.β
The Shaymenβs next game is in a weekβs time against Maidenhead, we asked Fullarton of what heβs looking for from that game.
βWe look forward to every game we play because itβs an opportunity to win those 3 points. Itβs an away trip, itβs a long trip and itβs an opportunity. Itβs irrelevant of who they are, where they are in the league, what their strengths and weaknesses are, weβll be focused on looking at what we can do to give us the best chance of winning those three points.β
Finally, we congratulated Jamie on winning the Vanarama manager of the month award after he won the personal achievement. We asked if he was happy with the award and wants to include everyone at the club in the award.
βItβs one of my Scottish traits coming in, I think they should change the award to βteam of the monthβ as opposed to the manager of the month. This is because you rely on players, you rely on support staff and you rely on the fans to contribute. So, whilst itβs fantastic to get any accolade, I think itβs a reflection on the club, everybody involved in the club as opposed to me.β
