The opening fixtures of September see FC Halifax Town looking to continue their impressive start to the season by travelling down to South London being welcome by Sutton United who currently sits in 9th place looking for a win to move them up the table.

The clash will take place on Saturday the 1st at Gander Green Lane and manager Paul Doswell will be looking to improve on the clubs’ dip in form and produce the goods to ensure a higher finish this season, after he guided The U’s to a 3rd place finish last term.

If the last five games have been anything to go by then the South London side will be looking to get back to winning ways. They had an impressive spell a few weeks ago recording a 2-1 home win against highly fancied Salford City and followed this up with another win, this time disposing of 6th place Ebbsfleet United 1-0 away from home.

However, after that The Amber and Chocolates from deteriorated finding themselves enduring back to back draws the first of which being an evenly contested 2-2 game away at Solihull Moors before having a 0-0 stalemate as they welcomed AFC Fylde to Gander Green Lane.

Doswell’s team fell even more into a poor run of form as they were beaten by 20th place Aldershot Town succumbing to a 2-1 defeat.

The clubs form in pre-season may have foreshadowed the position The U’s now find themselves in as they began their league preparations by impressively disposing of Football League side Coventry City 2-0 at home before playing out a 0-0 draw again at home to Woking.

Sutton then continued their unbeaten pre-season run by beating Dorking Wanderers 4-0 away from home before finding themselves on the end of their first defeat, a 2-0 home loss to Chelsea’s U23 side, they then finished the pre-season on a positive note with a 1-0 victory against Norwich’s U23s.

Halifax however, have had an excellent start to the season taking 12 points from the last available 15 with their biggest win of the season coming in the form of a triumphant 3-0 demolition of Kent side Maidstone United.

Bounce back ability has been crucial to the success of The Shaymen this season and that was shown a few match days back when after a disappointing 2-1 away loss to Greater Manchester side Salford City, Town put in an impressive display to beat Essex’s Dagenham and Redbridge 2-1 at home.

This mentality was again on display last week shown after a late Josh Umerah penalty sunk The Shay 2-1 away at Boreham Wood the side from West Yorkshire were able to pick themselves up at get the job done against Gateshead and beat them 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jordan Preston which kept up Towns unbeaten record at home.

Both teams have struggled to rely on an out and out goal scorer this season with the strikes being evenly shared around both sides. Towns most prolific individuals are last year’s top score Matty Kosylo and new boy Jonathan Edwards whereas Sutton’s highest scorer is Ross Lafayette with three strikes.

One of these teams will have to be on top form to take all three points this weekend and Jamie Fullarton’s men will be looking to make sure its them.
