FC Halifax Town play their second game in three days as Gateshead travel down to the MBi Shay Stadium on Monday.
The Shaymen have had a very good start to the season as they sit 4th in the table. The Tynesiders sit two places lower in 6th.
Not many people expected Steve Watson’s side to be towards the top of the table, so credit to the most Northern side in the league who have started the season very well.
A large reason for their great start in the 2018/19 season is down to one man in particular.
Luke Armstrong has already scored 5 goals. He’s joint top scorer in the league alongside a few significant others. Mike Fondop-Talom, Danny Rowe, Adam Rooney and Blair Turgott join the Gateshead striker at the top.
The young striker is only on loan at the National League side with his parent club being Middlesbrough of the Championship.
The 22-year-old has impressed so far as he looks to help his side continue their fine run of form and keep bagging as many goals as he can.
Born in County Durham, the striker will be looking to replicate some of his father’s success as a professional footballer. Alun Armstrong, Luke’s dad, had a long career in football, playing for Middlesbrough, Huddersfield and Ipswich Town. While at Ipswich Alun scored the only goal in a UEFA Cup game to see the Suffolk club win 1-0.
If Luke can continue to bang in the goals for Gateshead, I’m sure parent club Middlesbrough will notice their young striker and consider him for first-team action soon.
Armstrong is a hard-working striker, who is a wonderful finisher, as his goals have proven this season. He was the goal scorer in the 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient on Saturday.
He grabbed his first on the first day of the season in a comfortable 3-1 win. He then made Salford pay by scoring both goals in a 2-1 win. In the next game, he then scored an 87th-minute winner in a 2-1 win against Dover.
This means that Gateshead’s talisman has already won his side a total of 6 points with his goals, over half of their total points.
