This coming Monday seeโ€™s the second instalment of the bank holiday double header as action returns to The MBi Shay as FC Halifax Town face Gateshead FC.

Town head into Mondayโ€™s game in fourth position in the National League on 12 points along three other teams after a late controversial defeat to Boreham Wood. Gateshead are two places below in sixth but are only a point behind The Shaymen.

Gateshead have had a strong start to the National League season only suffering one defeat to the hands of Bromley on the 18th August. They started their season with a convincing win away at Maidenhead with a 3-1 win, they continued to turn heads following that performance with a 2-1 win over promotion favourites Salford City Luke Armstrong scoring two out of his five goals this season.

Gateshead continued their 100% record 2-1 over Dover, having travelled 347 miles up north That man again Armstrong put away in the closing minutes. The following week Gateshead travelled to Boreham Wood to steal a point in a 1-1 draw making a habit of scoring late it was Steven Rigg scoring in the 88th minute to grab the draw.

The bubble finally burst for Gateshead as they suffered a controversial defeat away down in Bromley. It was a Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe header that the referee had judged to bounced off the bar and bounced over the line in the 88th minute,

Gateshead travel to The Shay coming off a 1-1 draw at home against undefeated Leyton Orient after again conceding late in the 89th minute. Armstrong again got them off in the lead, a sending off for Orient with less than 10 minutes of normal time remaining Gateshead fans wouldโ€™ve been forgiven on thinking the game was thereโ€™s but Marvin Ekpitetaโ€™s strike stopped that.

The Shaymen come into the game suffering their second defeat of the season in very controversial circumstances at the hands of Boreham Wood. After Nathan Clarke got Town into the lead with 20 minutes to go. Wood pulled level entering the final 10 minutes and an extremely late penalty scored by Josh Umerah stopped The Shaymen from topping the table once again.

The season for Town started with a trip down to Essex went exactly to plan as Jamie Fullartonโ€™s men were dominant for most of the match and ran out 2-0 winners. Headed goals from Jonathan Edwards and Nathan Clarke meant that The Shaymen finished the opening round of games third in the league table. Town then made it two wins from two as they hosted Barrow AFC in the opening home match of the season. Goals from Dayle Southwell and captain Matty Brown saw of a spirited Barrow side 2-0.

The Shaymen went on to finish matchday three at the top of the table. Town easily defeated Maidstone United 3-0. Cameron King got his first goal on his first start for the club and then goals from Dayle Southwell and Ben Tomlinson rounded off an extremely impressive performance. An away trip to promotion favourites Salford City was next for The Shaymen. A tough game was expected and a tough game we got. A Matty Kosylo equaliser halfway through the second half wasnโ€™t enough for Halifax, with Adam Rooney scoring late on for Salford to win 2-1.

Town got back to winning ways Dagenham & Redbridge with a 2-1 victory. Matty Kosylo was on the scoresheet again and Jonathan Edwards got the winner to put FC Halifax Town second in the table.

The match against Gateshead kicks off at 3pm on Bank Holiday Monday down at The MBi Shay. We hope to see you all there!
