FC Halifax Town striker Dayle Southwell’s penalty wrapped up an impressive 3-0 win for the Shaymen against Maidstone on Saturday, making it 3 wins from 3 games, with no goals conceded.

Jonathan Edwards was brought down in the area trying to get onto Ben Tomlinson’s floated free-kick in the 69th minute, allowing Southwell to step up and grab his second of the season.

“It’s a brilliant start for us boys after working hard over pre-season” said Southwell, speaking to ShaymenTV following the game.

“We knew internally what we could do as a team and I think we’re expressing that now on the pitch and were playing really well.”

Despite the flurry of goals scored from different areas of the team, Southwell was keen to highlight the influence of the defence behind him.

“I keen speak highly enough of the boys at the back, they’ve done brilliantly.

“It’s a squad game; it starts form the front all the way back they’ve done really well.

“Even the defenders have popped up with a few goals. We’ve worked hard on set-pieces and it’s paying off.”

Halifax next travel to Salford City tonight, with the Greater Manchester side early favourites for promotion.

“Obviously it’s going to be a tough game. We know they’ve spent big and they’ll be a very good side with great individuals and they haven’t started as well as they’d like, so we know it’s going to be a very tough game, but we’re ready to go!”
