FC Halifax Town travel to National league newcomers Salford City on Tuesday night and new signing Adam Rooney is certainly the man to watch out for.
Salford may have only taken one point of out nine, but they are still one of the favourites in this league, so we know what to expect on Tuesday night. Adam Rooney was the shock transfer of the summer in the National League when he joined Salford City from Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen.
He joined Salford on an undisclosed fee, and a three-year contract reportedly on a £4,000 a week which I think makes him the highest paid player in the National League.
Rooney has played the three games so far and did grab his first and only goal so far vs Gateshead in the 2-1 loss in the second game of the season.
Rooney was a big hit at his former club Aberdeen spending 4 years at the club, making 151 appearances, scoring 61 goals. Aberdeen qualified for Europa League this season but exited to Burnley.
Rooney won the Scottish League cup in 2013/14 season which was his first, beating Inverness on penalties after the 0-0 draw. Rooney scored the decisive penalty to win the cup for Aberdeen.
Before Aberdeen, Rooney spent a lot of time at numerous clubs, within Great Britain.
Rooney started his career at Stoke back in 2005. He only played 15 games for Stoke, bagging 4 goals in his three years there.
But within them three years he did have loan spells to Yeovil, Chesterfield and Bury.
His time was up at Stoke and he travelled to Scotland to join Inverness Caledonian Thistle at 20 years of age.
It’s safe to say he impressed at the club. In the 2009/10 season he was awarded the “Irn Bru Phenomenal” First Division Player of the Year award. He was top scorer in the first division with 24 goals. Also winning the first division that season.
After scoring 44 goals for Inverness in 103 games, Birmingham decided to snap him up, but it didn’t go well for him there, making a loan spell to Swindon then signing for Oldham.
After time at Oldham, he found his home at Aberdeen and is now wanting a new challenge at Salford City.
