A convincing second half performance from FC Halifax Town Town makes it 2 games 2 wins for Jamie Fullarton and his men, as they beat Barrow 2-0 at The MBi Shay Stadium.

For the first 15 minutes of the game, both sides scrapped to gain control of the game, with the only chance of the opening quarter falling to Barrow’s John Rooney, who saw his first-time effort fly harmlessly wide of the FC Halifax Town goal. Barrow seemed to have the advantage in the first half hour, with a bombardment of chances from Kay and Rooney flying wide, with Jones heading wide from a corner on 25 minutes.

Town were forced to play deeper as Barrow pressed the backline, with the main out-ball being the running of Jonathan Edwards, who caused some problems for the Barrow defence with his runs in behind. Edwards was the playmaker in the opening goal, as his hold up play on the edge of the 6 yard box forced a tackle, with the ball deflecting out to Dayle Southwell who converted calmly with a first-time effort into the bottom corner. Town went in at the break leading, despite being forced into defending for the majority of the first half.

The opening to the second half was much better from The Shaymen, as they pressed high on the Barrow backline, who had defended well in the first half, forcing them into fouls and even had a penalty shout waved away. A big chance went a miss mid-way through the second half, with Dayle Southwell firing wide after an impressive driving run, with Ben Tomlinson unfortunately not being able to latch on whilst lurking at the back post.

However, the opposition very much came back into the game in the final 20 minutes of the game, with Jack Hindle seeing his 20-yard piledriver tipped emphatically onto the bar by Johnson, only to be again be prevented by the big man 30 seconds later, recycling the ball at the back post and getting another shot off.

Some resolute defending from Town though, ensured that Barrow stayed out in their period of control. The introduction of Matty Kosylo offered some quick, fresh legs in a tiring front line for Halifax, and his running offered an out ball in behind. A quick Town counter attack after a Barrow free kick resulted in a corner for The Shaymen, where Matty Brown powered home a header from a Ben Tomlinson corner to make it 2-0.

The rest of the match was professionally seen out by The Shaymen, who sit second in the league heading into Saturday’s game at home to Maidstone.
