FC Halifax Town will complete pre-season games with a home match tomorrow against Vanarama National League North side Boston United at the MBi Shay Stadium.

Here are 10 Things you may or not know about our visitors.

  1. The club is one of only 12 in the country to run a Centre of Excellence, provides a Study Support Centre and is also the basis of the ‘Boston United Football in the Community Scheme’.
  2. Boston United were members of the Football League from 2002 up until 2007. [2]
  3. The club is known as ‘the Pilgrims’ about the Pilgrim Fathers, who left England and sailed to North America and founded Boston, Massachusetts.
  4. The club’s crest, the pilgrim fathers’ ship ‘The Mayflower’, is also a reference to them.
  5. They were the first club to ever start a season on less than 0 points after financial problems seen them get deducted points.
  6. York Street, currently styled as The Jakemans Stadium for sponsorship purposes, is the home ground of Boston United and holds around 6,643 spectators.
  7. Was formerly managed by Steve Evans, the Scottish manager was prosecuted for tax evasion while managing the Pilgrims.
  8. Boston United won the Conference (National League) back in the 2001/02 season.
  9. Boston’s neighbours include Lincoln City, Scunthorpe United and Grimsby Town.
  10. Paul Gascoigne, the former England International, played four times for Boston United in 2004, his final club.
