FC Halifax Town boss Jamie Fullarton was pleased with his sides performance despite narrowly losing 3-2 at home to Port Vale on Tuesday evening.

Fullarton spoke to Shaymen TV after the game and told us how “Everyone’s still finding their feet in terms of getting the minutes in their legs, which will enable them physically to be able to be able to respond to what is asked of them, because we are looking to be a high intensity attacking team so therefore itโ€™s important we build the conditioning to enable them too.”

Town took an early lead thanks to a sensational strike from midfielder Niall Maher in the opening quarter of an hour, moments after Dayle Southwell hit the post from 35 yards out. The game could have been easily put to bed by Town if we had a little bit more luck in front of goal. But these are promising sights of what is to come ahead of the new National League season.

“We are showing signs of being better at that aspect as well as creating opportunities and their positions and starting roles. A lot of good signs from a tactical point of view, technically we are getting a little bit better on the ball and less stray passes and creating more opportunities and we hope looking forward we’ll concede less.”

Looking towards our first league game on August 4th against Braintree, the Town boss is keen to be taking all three points from our visit to the Essex side and although the Shaymen recorded a loss against Port Vale, Jamie Fullarton sees this as:

“Apart of preseason and I keep stressing it but itโ€™s another block towards us being able to compete for those three points on our first league game. I thought we shown signs of better understanding, creating more opportunity against a team that itโ€™s a league above us and from that point of view it was a pleasing aspect to obviously. From results although they’re not important, the business is about winning games, so we’ll look at areas that we need to improve on and there are multiple areas but ultimately we want to score more goals and concede less.”

“Ultimately to win games you’ve got to score goals you’ve got to create chances and the more chances you create it gives you a better chance of increasing the ratio that you have that’s going to be our approach in every game”

With the season on the horizon the boss still sees room for improvement and although its pleasing to see signs of his vision in motion the team is by no stretch of the imagination where he wants them to be come first game of the season but says its acceptable to be where we are in terms of this time in preseason as physically we are nearly there.

Saturday, we travel down to Leicestershire to face Coalville Town in the Shaymen’s fifth preseason friendly this summer. Looking towards the game we hope to be seeing former Town player Scott McManus at his new club and Fullarton see’s the weekends fixture a chance for both Scott and the fans to have a final send off.

“That’s why we arranged the game (Coalville), Scott spent a lot of time here and had a great relationship with the fans, did excellent for the club and I thought it was fitting for one our preseason games especially when he signed for his new club for us to visit them.”

The supporters don’t realise the effect they can have on a team and Fullarton can’t express it enough. The players left the field on Tuesday evening at full time to a standing ovation from the supporters. The fans noticing the hard work and at times great entertaining football their side had just produced.

“The supports been great and to encourage and maintain that support us as a group staff and players, must perform on the pitch and that’s a key factor because itโ€™s not just how you win the game and our approach tonight and their reaction shows that they enjoyed it and it gives great support for the players and gives them that extra edge we need when these league games start.”
