FC Halifax Town recorded a resounding 7-1 win over local neighbours Brighouse Town tonight at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium.

It was a good test for the Shaymen and Jamie Fullarton was able to use his squad to give players game time and the chance to practice what they have been doing in training.

Town started the game well and new signing Dayle Southwell got the first goal of the game on 9 minutes with a header.

Gabriel Johnson equalised with neat finish but it didn’t take long for Southwell to double his tally and put Town ahead for the second time.

Ben Tomlinson looked to make it 3-1 just before the break but his shot was parried into the path of Cameron King and he made no mistake with the rebound.

Fullarton made a couple of changes and it was the 76th minute when Town started a period of three goals in three minutes.

First Jordan Preston skipped past a couple of defenders and drilled his show into the bottom corner.

Then a substitute trialist capitalised on a Kosylo shot rebounding off the goalkeeper to make it 5-1.

Number six was to follow with Mekhi McLeod beating a defender with great skill and then firing under the keeper.

The trialist doubled his tally with the 7th for the Shaymen with another powerful shot in injury time.

A comfortable win for Town but the performance would be what Jamie Fullarton would have been more interested in.

Town are back in action on Saturday with the visit of Bolton Wanderers to the MBi Shay Stadium, 3pm kick-off.
