Preseason is underway and in full swing as National League clubs take back to the pitch to get back into the groove ahead of the new season.

Thursday

A behind closed doors game between a Brentford B team full of trialists and a mixture of first team and youth team players come up against Maidenhead.

Friday

Brentford teamed a strong squad against National League play off runner up Boreham Wood who gave the Championship side a game.

Saturday

Newly Championship side West Brom faced newly National League side Barnet in a battle between two relegated sides looking to put last season behind them. Darren Moore hopes to bounce his side straight back into the Premier League while Barnet manager John Still has eyes only for Football League as he takes charge of his first match as The Bees manager. The other game on Saturday seen another side new to a league but this time through promotion not relegation as the new National League side Havant & Waterlooville face Portsmouth in what was thought to be an easy win for Pompey, but the newly promoted side didn’t roll over.

Tuesday night hosted a lot of preseason games as most National League faced its first or second summer fixture. Dagenham & Redbridge and Hartlepool United shocking the league with ties against Heybridge Swifts and Billingham Town. Heavy defeat for newly promoted Braintree as they faced Colchester United in this neighbouring tie. Big wins for Chesterfield, Leyton Orient and Maidstone as they score 17 goals between them. Shock wins for Barrow and Sutton United as they faced tough games against higher opposition. Wrexham battled to secure a draw on their preseason tour of Portugal, the welsh side representing the National League in Europe this summer.

Only Gateshead are yet to start their preseason fixture list this summer, but they look to kick it off this Saturday against Newcastle Benfield. The rest of the league face ties up and down the country in hope to build momentum and form ahead of the new season.

Don’t forget to get yourselves down to the MBI Shay Stadium this Saturday as Town face Championship side Bolton Wanderers, 3pm Kick off.
