FC Halifax Town U19s were defeated 3-0 in the final of the National League U19 Alliance League Cup by Chester FC tonight down at the Banks Stadium, Walsall.

It was Chester who started the game well, on 5 mins, a cross from the right for Chester was headed goal wards but it was an easy save from Town goalkeeper Jack Atkinson.

Atkinson was on hand with a better one footed save from a cross into the box which was headed goal wards but he was equal to the effort to keep the score at 0-0.

However he was beaten in the 15th minute. Lloyd Marsh-Hughes turned 30 yards from goal and his pace took him into the box. His shot was too powerful for Atkinson despite a hand to the ball and it nestled in the net.

Town grew into the game but on the hour mark Chester doubled their lead from the penalty spot as Cain Noble made no mistake following the award of a spot kick.

The referee a couple of minutes later ruled out a Town goal. A corner on the far side was headed goal wards by Sam Clayton, it was headed home on the line but Richard Gardner had seen a foul somewhere in the build up and ruled out the goal

Town’s best chances came from distance after good set up play but really failed to trouble Ben Gale in the Chester goal.

Iwan Murray capped a good performance with a goal in injury time to finish off the game.

Well done to the U19s to getting to the final and thank you to RSA Insurance who have sponsored the team this season again.
