FC Halifax Town boss Jamie Fullerton believes the busy schedule proved too much, as Town lost 1-0 away to Torquay.

β€œI think it was one game too many for us this week, you have to give the players great credit in how they have applied themselves in the three previous games, it’s the fourth game in a week, combined with a long journey yesterday, although the expectation demanded from myself and within the group was to go out and perform like we have been, I think today showed it was one game too many for us,” said Fullerton to Shaymen TV at full-time.

It was a must win game for Torquay, who are fighting to avoid relegation from the Vanarama National League.

β€œIt was always going to be tough, Torquay are fighting for their lives, they needed to get a result today to give themselves a chance of staying in the league.”

β€œWe weathered the early storm, which we expected to come at us, but for our level and our standard and how we have performed in the results we got, I thought we fell short today.”

Town were down to ten men after Ben Tomlinson was dismissed with a second bookable offence for a late challenge.

β€œI don’t think how we played was affected or impacted by the sending off, obviously we never like to see any sending off or even yellow cards unnecessarily, but I don’t think it had a huge impact.”

β€œPlayers have got to take huge credit, and it’s not just me it’s everyone involved at the club, including the fans which are a big part of that, with a great travelling support here which is a long journey.”

β€œThe only people who are more disappointed than me is the players and they are not making any excuses, we’ve under performed today for our standards and our levels.”

The game was Town’s fourth within the space of 7 days, which was evident in the defeat.

β€œWe are going out to make sure that every game we try to win, that’s 2 defeats in 11 games, with a level of performance that has matched those results.”

β€œI don’t think it would happen anywhere else in the football league, you have Torquay today fighting for their lives with us playing 3 games in 5 days coming down, it’s something we have to look at and the league has to, in terms of the schedule.”

β€œIt’s taking that disappointment and channelling it to make sure that come next week, with Tranmere at home, which will be a great atmosphere, a fantastic for us to return to, that we get back to the performance and hopefully the results we have been experiencing at home.”
